Guardian Ad Litem
A guardian ad litem plays an important role in court proceedings involving an individual who may be incapacitated. At Atlantic Law PLC, Brian is qualified to serve as a guardian ad litem for allegedly incapacitated individuals throughout the Tidewater area of Virginia.
Appointed by a judge, a guardian ad litem serves as an independent resource for the court. Rather than simply advocating for an individual’s stated preferences, the guardian ad litem investigates the circumstances of the case and provides the court with an independent recommendation regarding the individual’s best interests.
The responsibilities of a guardian ad litem may include:
- Interviewing the allegedly incapacitated individual
- Speaking with family members and other relevant parties
- Investigating the circumstances surrounding the case
- Reviewing information relevant to the individual’s needs and well-being
- Preparing reports and recommendations for the court
- Participating in court hearings
- Participating in mediation sessions when appropriate
- Providing an independent assessment of the individual’s best interests
Brian has completed the required training to serve as a guardian ad litem for allegedly incapacitated persons and is qualified to accept appointments in Tidewater Circuit Courts, including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, and Newport News.
Serving as a guardian ad litem requires careful investigation, objectivity, and a thorough understanding of the circumstances presented to the court. Atlantic Law PLC approaches these appointments with the attention and diligence necessary to provide the court with meaningful information and recommendations.
